Pre-Calculus Information!

PRE-AP PRE-CALCULUS/TRIGONOMETRY

SOUTHSIDE HIGH SCHOOL

Welcome to Pre-AP Pre-Cal/Trig.   This course combines a review and extension of Algebra II, trigonometry, and an introduction into calculus. Since this is a pre-advanced placement class, we will progress at a faster pace and cover more challenging topics than the regular Pre-Cal/Trig classes.  With proper work and studying all students should be able to achieve realistic goals.

Since the textbook we use is calculator based, your student will need a graphing calculator for this class.  I recommend the TI-83 plus or a TI-84.  Be sure that you mark your calculator with several identification marks. Do not leave your calculator unattended.  If you are unable to purchase your own calculator, I have a few older calculators available for students to check out.  I will have a classroom set of calculators that students can use during class.  Students need to bring four AAA batteries if you are using the school calculators. (The first three students in each class to bring batteries will recieve priority seating!!)

Students are expected to be responsible and prepared for class each day.  Doing homework on a regular basis will be essential to a student’s success in the class.  Homework grades and quizzes will be given several times a week.  The remainder of the semester grade will be comprised of chapter tests and projects.  I am available after school until 3:45 for extra help.

Weekly assignments will be posted in the room and will be listed on my wiki at http://conniesrebs.pbwiki.com. If a student has an excused absence he or she can check the board or internet for their make-up work.  It is the student’s responsibility to do the make-up work. All work must be handed in within a day of each day that the student is absent.

Please feel free to contact me at school.  My conference period is from 12:30 – 1:20 pm.  The school number is 646-7371.  You may also e-mail me at work at ctownley@fortsmithschools.org.  E-mail is a great way for me to be in touch with you.  Please fill out the bottom of the page and return to me.

It is going to be an exciting and successful year for all of us!
